Solitude for me is enjoying one’s own company and not feeling bored when we are alone. One of the new year’s resolution I took at the start of this year is that I wanted to start spending more time alone and in my own company, not going on my phone or doing anything, just sitting there with my thoughts.
While sometimes that led to some dark places, in those cases I stopped and pulled myself out or did something. However, I think one of the only flaws other than that one of solitude, is its unmatched peace. It is definitely addictive, it invites you in, at first its boring, but slowly you enjoy it.
Although, spending more time alone and just completely ignoring people, can definitely hamper your relationships and friendships, but if you do it for the right amount, you can definitely see its benefits. For me the benefits is that it helps me immensely in my writing and coming up with ideas for this blog for example or even for my second novel ( which I am currently working on ).
So, I would definitely encourage more people to spend more time alone with your thoughts and in solitude, you will get to know yourself more closely and become more in peace with who you are. In the end I leave you with a quote to ponder on.
“Solitude is as needful to the imagination as society is wholesome for the character”
JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL
